David Hopkins, CEO of the TTF, has written an interesting blog in response to the CCC's continued call in its Progress Report to Parliament, that the UK Government substantially increase the use of timber in construction to help the country to attain its net-zero objectives.
If we narrow 'timber' down to increased use of SIPs (timber-faced structural insulated panels) in construction, then the country will move even faster towards its objectives.
Using SIPs means relatively small amounts of timber are required, but more importantly, the thermal efficiency of a well-constructed building using high quality SIPs is arguably the highest of any alternative material.
Not only will the UK have more buildings that use far less heat, but more residents will have very low heating costs and no need for gas heating, which is being phased out in the homes of the future.
