We have always had amazing women on our team, and in recent months and years, the number in senior positions has grown very quickly.
In November 2018, Ingrid Lovatt joined us as Finance Director, Sarah Gazzola became our Sales Manager about 18 months later, Liz Moran (HR Manager) and Claire Duffy (Product & Systems Compliance Manager) were appointed during 2020, and Juliette Mullineux has just joined as Product Manager.
We are bucking the trend in manufacturing, because according to recent ONS data the gender split in manufacturing is 24% women to 76% men.
We are really keen to encourage more women to work in our industry, so in honour of International Women's Day 2021, we asked our colleagues what inspires them; why they enjoy working for the company; and to offer a few words to encourage other women to consider a career in manufacturing.
Ingrid Lovatt:
“I wanted a career doing something tangible. Making things to help people in their everyday lives or things which are essential to everyday life is very satisfying. Everything around us here at Hemsec 24/7 has been made with thought and care, and not motivated by recognition. Manufacturing solves problems we didn’t know we had. And more than that, Manufacturing is always looking to innovate, find better ways to do things, and in a more planet-friendly way.
The people here love to share with you what they do and whatever their role is they are truly collaborative.
Manufacturing is a very satisfying sector to work in because it has so much variety : materials; products; processes; and without exception in every manufacturing business I’ve worked in, everyone is always passionate about, and an expert in what they make. There’s an amazing amount of detailed knowledge and pride that goes into making sure something is the best it can be, every day, for the person who will be receiving and using something you’ve made.”
Liz Moran:
“I have worked in a variety of sectors during my HR career and if you like a fast paced environment when no two days of the same, manufacturing is for you. I enjoy the people the most, and the challenge of working with both blue and white collar employees who have different needs and priorities. Working for Hemsec Manufacturing is the best career move I’ve ever made. There is nothing better than watching a dedicated team making great quality products for our customers.”
Claire Duffy:
“I chose a career in manufacturing as it offers scope for personal development whilst having the opportunity to contribute to the bigger goal. The thing that I most enjoy about my role is the visualisation of your efforts through results. It is an equal opportunity sector, we need more women in Manufacturing to dispel the misconception that it is a male environment.”
Please help us to encourage more women into the sector by sharing our social posts, and telling all your contacts how rewarding it is to work in this pride-engendering sector.
