“There were different amounts and types of experience on the panel, and it was exciting to learn that each of us shared the same enthusiasm and desire around ‘doing the right thing’. I came away feeling inspired by the passion and the intelligence of the debate. It was not a theoretical talking shop; it was positive and constructive. We shared the ways in which we are each already doing ‘the right thing’ as well as great ideas for how we can do more of it.
“In times where we’re seeing such destruction, it’s uplifting to see people being really productive, and encouraging others to be confident about the future.”
Ingrid, who is also a qualified Architectural Engineer, explained to the audience that Hemsec has been going for nearly 100 years, and the practical research at Liverpool John Moores ties in with what we are trying to do.
“Liverpool is home to the Manufacturing and Technology Centre’s second hub, and we have a Construction Innovation hub here, just two examples of the wealth of research and manufacturing in the region that will strengthen everyone’s future.
“At Hemsec, we have the simple aim of making a positive impact in the world. In my view, businesses are well-positioned to be amongst those who ‘do good’, because we can make those decisions for ourselves. In larger institutions it is harder, but when each person does all the good that they can, every day, change happens across the bigger picture.”
“I believe we each have a responsibility, regardless of who we are. It’s not about waiting for others to do something. If we wait for ‘people at the top’ to see women differently, we will wait a long time. Instead, let’s use reasoned argument and positive energy to de-risk change for people where we see it will be helpful, and give them the confidence that they can move forward."
